This Art Deco skyscraper in Manhattan's Financial District, designed by Ely Jacques Kahn of Buchman & Kahn, was completed in 1930 at the corner of Wall Street, Pine Street, and South Street. Rising 122 meters across 34 floors, the tower exemplifies the tiered "wedding-cake" silhouette mandated by New York's 1916 Zoning Resolution, with shallow setbacks receding from a substantial 16-story platform. A five-story limestone base features red-granite panels framing expansive commercial windows at street level, anchoring the composition before the tower rises above. The building contains 615,000 square feet of floor space on a compact 23,000-square-foot lot, maximizing development potential within the constraints of Lower Manhattan's dense street grid.
