The 28th Street station is an underground stop on the IRT Lexington Avenue Line of the New York City Subway, beneath Park Avenue South at 28th Street in Manhattan's Rose Hill neighborhood. Built for the Interborough Rapid Transit Company as part of the city's first subway line, it opened on October 27, 1904, as one of the original 28 stations. It has two side platforms flanking four tracks, with express trains using the inner pair to bypass it, and its tile and mosaic decoration continues along the platform extensions. Designed in the Beaux-Arts style by Christopher Grant LaFarge, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
