Acireale Cathedral, dedicated to the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, stands in Piazza Duomo in Acireale, Sicily, Italy, and was declared a minor basilica in 1957. Begun as a parish church between 1597 and 1618 and greatly enlarged after it received relics of Saint Venera, it is a 17th-century Baroque building. Its 1668 portal by Placido Blandamonte is paired with a Neo-Gothic west front by Giovan Battista Filippo Basile, completed to his plans after his death in 1891.
