Adams County Jail
Corning, United States

Not open to the public
On private land.
The former Adams County Jail, now the House of History of the Adams County Historical Society, stands in Corning, Iowa. Built of limestone in 1877, it is a two-story rectangular building with Vernacular form and Greek Revival influence, capped by a hipped roof with a flat crest. It mimicked the frame courthouse beside it, which no longer stands. The jail served the county for 78 years before being converted to apartments in 1955 and a museum in 1969. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
