The Al-Omari Grand Mosque, also known as Jami' Al-Kabir, is a Sunni mosque in Beirut's central district, Lebanon, with Romanesque architecture. The building began as a Roman temple and later served as a Roman church in the Byzantine era. It was rebuilt in 635 under the second caliph, Umar bin al-Khattab, who gave it his name. It was later converted into a Crusader church, and after Mamluk Egypt conquered Beirut it was reconverted into a mosque.
