The Alabama State Capitol stands on Capitol Hill, formerly Goat Hill, in Montgomery, Alabama. Completed in 1851 in the Greek Revival style, it was designed by Frank Lockwood. Unlike most state capitols, the legislature does not meet there; the building houses the governor's office and functions as a museum. In 1861 it served as the temporary capitol of the Confederate States, where delegates drew up the Provisional and Permanent Constitutions, and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the First Confederate Capitol.
