Alamut Castle is a ruined mountain fortress near the village of Gazor Khan in Qazvin province, Iran, about 200 km from Tehran. Built of stone and plaster in Nizari and Safavid styles, it came under Hassan-i Sabbah in 1090 and served as headquarters of the Nizari Ismaili state until 1256, when the Mongols dismantled it. It is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is recognised as Iranian National Heritage.
