Alcatraz Island Light is a lighthouse at the southern end of Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay, California, and the first lighthouse built on the U.S. West Coast. Its original light, completed in 1854, was damaged in the 1906 earthquake and demolished. A concrete tower, about 26 metres tall, replaced it in 1909 just to the south. The lighthouse was automated with a modern beacon in 1963, the year the island's federal prison closed. It is a contributing property of the National Register of Historic Places.
