The Alexander Garden Obelisk stands in the Alexander Garden near the Kremlin walls in Moscow, Russia. Designed by Sergey Aleksandrovich Vlasev, the granite monument was erected on July 10, 1914, to celebrate the tercentenary of the House of Romanov. In 1918, after the October Revolution, its inscriptions and reliefs were altered to honour revolutionary thinkers, making it the first monument of the new socialist state. It was moved closer to the garden's centre in 1966.
