The Alte Bibliothek, nicknamed "Kommode" (Commode), is a listed Baroque library building on Bebelplatz in Berlin's historic centre. Erected by order of Frederick the Great from 1774 to 1780 to plans by Georg Christian Unger and Georg Friedrich Boumann, it was Berlin's first freestanding library building. Damaged in World War II, it was rebuilt from 1963 to 1969 and has since housed the law faculty of the Humboldt-Universität.
