The Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, located in the Epidavros Municipality on the southeast end of the sanctuary dedicated to Asclepius, the ancient Greek god of medicine, stands as a masterwork of late 4th-century BC theatrical architecture. Designed by Polykleitos the Younger and built on the west side of Cynortion Mountain near modern Lygourio, the theatre is widely regarded as the most perfect example of ancient Greek theatre in terms of both acoustics and aesthetics. Its exceptional design has earned it recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage site, inscribed in 1988 alongside the Temple of Asclepius.
