The Apadana is a monumental hypostyle hall at Persepolis, Iran, built during the first half of the fifth century BCE as part of Darius the Great's original design for the city. Xerxes I completed its construction. This structure, exemplifying Achaemenid architecture, features the columned interior typical of hypostyle design. The hall's famous relief sculptures, which decorated its walls, have been interpreted by modern scholars as representations of idealized social orders rather than literal historical records.
