Ashland is a plantation house in Lexington, Kentucky, in the central Bluegrass region, built in 1811 in the Italianate style and credited to architects Thomas Lewinski and Benjamin Henry Latrobe. It was the estate of nineteenth-century statesman Henry Clay, and enslaved people built its buildings and worked its hemp fields, livestock, and household labor. The estate is a National Historic Landmark, and the Ashland Stakes, a Thoroughbred race at Keeneland, is named for it.
