Ashtown Castle is a tower house in Dublin's Phoenix Park, Ireland. It was discovered hidden within the walls of the Georgian Under Secretary's Lodge, also known as Ashtown Lodge, which had been used by the Papal Nuncio and was deemed structurally irreparable from dry rot before demolition in 1978. The castle has since been restored and forms part of the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre. It is thought to date from the 1430s, as its dimensions conform to a government policy of the time offering £10 to those who built a castle for their own safety.
