Avignon Cathedral, formally Notre-Dame des Doms, is a Roman Catholic minor basilica beside the Palais des Papes in Avignon, France, and the seat of the Archbishop of Avignon. Its core is Romanesque, largely built in the second half of the 12th century. Its most distinctive feature is a gilded statue of the Virgin Mary atop the bell tower, erected in 1859. The interior holds the 14th-century Gothic mausoleum of Pope John XXII, and the cathedral is a listed monument historique and part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
