Bab al-Maqam is one of the historic Gates of Aleppo, Syria, and forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built in the 13th century by al-Aziz Muhammad on the road connecting the Maqamat with the Citadel, its design departs from most medieval Syrian gates, suggesting a ceremonial rather than military purpose. Yasser Tabbaa, in his 1997 study, argues it likely served religious and political functions as homage to Abraham.
