The Bangs Block, a brick commercial building erected in 1870 at 1119 Main Street in Springfield, Massachusetts, exemplifies the Italianate and Queen Anne styles that characterized mid-nineteenth-century urban development. Originally constructed for a grocer, it reflects the period's commercialization of the city's downtown southern end. The structure was recognized for its architectural and historical significance when listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
