Manhattan, United States

Exterior only
Visible from the street; the inside is private.
The Bank of the Metropolis building stands at 31 Union Square West in Manhattan, a 16-story building designed by Bruce Price and built between 1902 and 1903. Its tripartite facade and neoclassical elements reflect its Beaux-Arts character, and it was designated a New York City Landmark in 1988 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. The bank operated from 1871 to 1918, after which the building served as an office tower before its upper stories were converted to residential use in 1976.
