The Basilica of Saint-Denis is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Saint-Denis, a northern suburb of Paris, France, that originated as a medieval abbey church. Abbot Suger rebuilt portions of it in the 12th century, and its choir, completed in 1144, is widely considered the first structure to employ all the elements of Gothic architecture. It is a classified historical monument and a Tentative World Heritage Site.
