The Basilica of San Lorenzo stands at the centre of Florence's main market district and is one of the city's largest churches. Designed by Filippo Brunelleschi and begun in 1421, it was not completed until after his death. It was the parish church of the Medici family and holds the burials of its principal members, from Cosimo il Vecchio to Cosimo III.
