The Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul is a neo-Gothic collegiate and parish church situated within Vyšehrad fortress in Prague, Czech Republic. Originally founded between 1070 and 1080 by King Vratislaus II of Bohemia as a Romanesque structure, the building was severely damaged by fire in 1249 and subsequently rebuilt in Gothic and later neo-Gothic styles. The basilica is distinguished by an impressive stone mosaic above its entrance and twin towers rising 58 meters, which dominate the skyline visible from along the Vltava River in central Prague. Behind the church lies a large park and Vyšehrad cemetery, where notable Czechs including author Karel Čapek and composer Antonín Dvořák are buried. The church was elevated to basilica status by Pope John Paul II in 2003 and remains part of the Czech Republic's national cultural heritage.
