The Basilica of St. Vitus in Mönchengladbach, Germany, is a Catholic parish church and former Benedictine monastery in Romanesque style, elevated to minor basilica rank by Pope Paul VI in 1973. Its nave took its definitive form between 1228 and 1239. Master Gerhard, first architect of Cologne Cathedral, brought his experience to a planned new choir set on a different plane, in the elongated Gothic manner. Albert the Great consecrated the abbey on April 28, 1275.
