Built in 1906 in South Norwalk, Connecticut, Beth Israel Synagogue stands as a striking example of Moorish Revival architecture and the only known synagogue in Connecticut to feature Moorish onion domes. Constructed as an unusual urban wood-frame structure, it originally served an Orthodox congregation before being acquired by the Canaan Institutional Baptist Church in 1972, a use it maintains today. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991, recognizing its architectural and cultural significance.
