Bezděz Castle is a Gothic castle ruin in the Liberec Region of the Czech Republic, about 20 kilometres southeast of Česká Lípa. Construction began before 1264 under King Ottokar II of Bohemia on the phonolite hill of Velký Bezděz, 604 metres above sea level. Once one of the most important Gothic castles in the Czech lands, it was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War, and it is now a national cultural monument.
