Big Ben is the nickname for the Great Bell of the Great Clock of Westminster and, by extension, the clock tower at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London. Designed by Augustus Pugin and Sir Charles Barry in the Perpendicular Gothic style, the tower was completed in 1859 and stands 96 metres tall. Its clock was, on completion, the largest and most accurate four-faced striking and chiming clock in the world.
