Bodrum Castle stands in the port city of Bodrum in southwest Turkey. Begun in 1402 by the Knights of St John (Knights Hospitaller) as the Castle of St. Peter, it is a transnational work with four towers named for the English, French, German, and Italian nations that built them. Taken by the Ottoman Empire in 1523, its chapel became a mosque, and since the early 1960s the castle has housed the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology. It is on UNESCO's Tentative List.
