Buchan Ness Lighthouse stands on the headland at Boddam, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Robert Stevenson, engineer to the Northern Lighthouse Board, chose the site after many vessels had been run aground there in poor weather. The granite tower was completed in 1824 and the light established in 1827. Standing 36 metres tall, it is distinguished by a red band painted in 1907 to help passing ships determine their location.
