Buckingham Fountain, located in the center of Grant Park in Chicago, is one of the world's largest fountains. Designed by Daniel Burnham and Edward H. Bennett in the rococo style and dedicated in 1927, it was donated to the city by philanthropist Kate S. Buckingham. Drawing inspiration from the Latona Fountain at the Palace of Versailles, the fountain's elaborate "wedding cake" form allegorically represents Lake Michigan. Positioned between Queen's Landing and the end of Ida B. Wells Drive, the fountain operates seasonally from mid-April through mid-October, featuring regular water-jet displays and evening colored-light shows, while winter brings decorative festival lighting.
