The Ca' d'Oro, also called Palazzo Santa Sofia, is a Gothic palace on Venice's Grand Canal. Its name, "House of Gold," refers to the gilt and polychrome decoration that once covered its exterior. Designed by Marino Contarini and later restored by Baron Giorgio Franchetti, it was converted into a museum in 1927. It is widely regarded as the best-surviving Venetian Gothic palazzo.
