Caerlaverock Castle is a moated triangular castle on the southern coast of Scotland, eleven kilometres south of Dumfries, on the edge of the Caerlaverock National Nature Reserve. First built in the 13th century, it was a stronghold of the Maxwell family until the 17th century, and it survives despite repeated demolition and rebuilding, retaining its distinctive triangular plan. Built of sandstone, it is a scheduled monument in the care of Historic Environment Scotland.
