Cardiff Castle stands in the city centre of Cardiff, Wales, combining a medieval castle with a Victorian Gothic Revival mansion. Its original motte and bailey was built in the late 11th century by Norman invaders on top of a 3rd-century Roman fort, and it was rebuilt in stone from the 12th century. It is a National Monument of Wales, a Grade I listed building, a scheduled monument and a local authority museum.
