Carlton House was a Georgian mansion on the south side of Pall Mall in Westminster, London, with gardens abutting St James's Park. Designed by Henry Holland, it was best known as the town residence of the Prince Regent, the future George IV, before he took the throne. Its site was later replaced by Carlton House Terrace, and its location was a main reason for John Nash's ceremonial route from St James's to Regent's Park, with Lower Regent Street and Waterloo Place laid out as the approach to its front entrance.
