Casa Rosada
Buenos Aires, Argentina
Exterior only
Visible from the street; the inside is private.
The Casa Rosada, Spanish for "pink house," is the official workplace of the President of Argentina in Buenos Aires, also known officially as the Casa de Gobierno or Government House. Begun in 1898 to designs by Enrique Aberg, Carlos Kihlberg and Francesco Tamburini, it blends eclectic, Romanesque Revival, Italianate and Neoclassical influences. Its baby pink colour makes it one of the city's most emblematic buildings, and it houses a museum of objects relating to former presidents. It is a National Historic Monument of Argentina.
