Castell Coch, meaning "red castle" in Welsh, is a Gothic Revival castle above the village of Tongwynlais in Wales, designed by William Burges for John Crichton-Stuart, 3rd Marquess of Bute. Burges rebuilt its exterior between 1875 and 1879 on the remains of a medieval stone fortification, giving its three stone towers a dramatic silhouette closer to mainland European castles than to native British ones. It is a Grade I listed National Monument of Wales, now cared for by the heritage agency Cadw.
