The Castle of Atienza stands dramatically atop a rocky outcrop in Atienza, Spain, visible from considerable distances across the landscape. Built during the medieval period, the fortress was repeatedly contested between Muslim and Christian forces until Alfonso VI captured it definitively in 1085, marking a significant moment in the Reconquista. The castle was officially recognized as a Bien de Interés Cultural (a Spanish heritage designation) in 1931.
