Castle of Bouka
Preveza, Greece

No longer standing
Demolished or destroyed.
The Castle of Bouka was the first major Ottoman fortification of Preveza in northwestern Greece, built in 1478 to control the straits of the Ambracian Gulf. The Venetians, who captured it in 1684, improved it, then blew it up in 1701 before handing Preveza to the Ottomans under the Treaty of Karlowitz. Very few remains survive, and the site, called Paliosaraga, later held the summer seraglio of Ali Pasha of Yannina.
