This Roman Catholic military cathedral in Brasília was designed by Oscar Niemeyer and inaugurated on September 12, 1994. Located on the west side of the Monumental Axis between the N1 and S1 tracks, near the Urban Military Sector, the structure employs a distinctive triangular form that evokes a tent—a reference characteristic of Niemeyer's modernist vocabulary. Pope John Paul II laid the foundation stone during a 1991 visit to Brazil. The cathedral serves the Military Ordinariate of Brazil and stands as a notable example of late twentieth-century Brazilian ecclesiastical architecture.
