The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels is the Roman Catholic metropolitan cathedral in Los Angeles, California, and the mother church of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Designed by Rafael Moneo in a modern idiom and built of concrete, it was begun in 1998 under Cardinal Roger Mahony and dedicated on September 2, 2002. It replaced the Cathedral of Saint Vibiana, which was severely damaged in the 1994 Northridge earthquake.
