The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, commonly called the Maputo Cathedral, is a Catholic cathedral on Praça da Independência in downtown Maputo, Mozambique. Designed by the Portuguese civil engineer Marcial Simões de Freitas e Costa, then a railway director, who worked pro bono for the Archdiocese of Lourenço Marques, it is built of concrete and cement in a modern style. Its foundation stone was laid on 28 June 1936, and construction was completed in 1944.
