The Cathedral Basilica of Salvador, seat of the Archbishop of Salvador in Bahia, Brazil, was built by the Society of Jesus as part of a Jesuit monastic and educational complex. The current church, the fourth on the site, was consecrated in 1672. It is regarded as one of the finest Mannerist buildings in the Portuguese empire and strongly resembles the Jesuit Church of Coimbra. Its façade uses Lioz stone from Portugal. It faces the Terreiro de Jesus within the UNESCO-listed Historic Center of Salvador.
