The Cathedral of St. John the Divine is the Episcopal cathedral of the Diocese of New York, at 1047 Amsterdam Avenue in Manhattan's Morningside Heights neighborhood. Construction began in 1892 on a design blending Byzantine and Romanesque Revival styles, later changed to Gothic Revival after the crossing opened in 1909. Only about two-thirds of the proposed building is complete, earning it the nickname "St. John the Unfinished," yet it is the largest church in North America by some definitions.
