Chambéry Cathedral, dedicated to Saint François de Sales, is a Gothic Catholic church in Chambéry, France, and a classified historical monument. Begun in the 15th century as a Franciscan chapel on very swampy ground, it rests on some 30,000 poles. It became a cathedral when the see was created in 1779 and is now the seat of the Archdiocese of Chambéry, Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, and Tarentaise. Its interior holds the largest ensemble of trompe-l'œil painting in Europe, covering almost 6,000 m², by Sevesi and Vicario.
