The Chapel of the Ascension stands on the Mount of Olives in the At-Tur district of Jerusalem, on a site believed since the Byzantine period to be where Jesus ascended into Heaven after his Resurrection. It began as part of a Christian church and monastery, later became an Islamic mosque known as Zawiyat al-Adawiya, and houses a slab of stone believed to bear one of his footprints. Its Romanesque architecture dates to around 1150.
