The Chapel of the Holy Cross is a Roman Catholic chapel built from 1954 to 1956 in Sedona, Arizona, dramatically carved into the region's distinctive red rock buttes within the Coconino National Forest. Commissioned by local rancher and sculptor Marguerite Brunswig Staude and designed by August K. Strotz of the architectural firm Anshen & Allen, with Richard Hein serving as project architect, the chapel exemplifies brutalist architecture through its bold integration with the natural landscape. Now under the jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix, it was recognized for its architectural and historical significance when added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.
