The Château de la Muette stands on the edge of the Bois de Boulogne near the Porte de la Muette in Paris's 16th arrondissement, and it now houses the OECD headquarters. Lucien Hesse and Jacques Gabriel are credited as its architects. The site has held three successive châteaux, beginning with a hunting lodge converted for Princess Marguerite of Valois in the 16th century. The second, extended by Louis XV, was where the first manned hot-air balloon flight set off in 1783. The old château was demolished in the 1920s, and the present one was built for Henri James de Rothschild.
