Château Grimaldi stands on a hilltop above the town of Cagnes-sur-Mer in the Alpes-Maritimes, France, on the site of an earlier fortress used by the Greeks and then the Romans. Rainier Grimaldi, Lord of Cagnes and an admiral of France, built the present castle in 1309. Constructed in local stone, it keeps machicolations and crenellations over its towers and keep, and is arranged around a triangular courtyard. Owned by the city, it is now an exhibition centre for contemporary art and a museum of modern art.
