The Childress Commercial and Civic Historic District is a 110-acre historic district in Childress, Texas, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016. Comprising 93 contributing buildings alongside structures, sites, and objects spread across roughly 17 city blocks plus a discontiguous parcel, the district showcases predominantly one- and two-part commercial buildings constructed from cast iron, brick, wood, stone, and glass. More than 60 acres occupy the city's Fair Park, while brick-paved streets installed during the 1920s remain integral to much of the commercial zone. The district includes two Recorded Texas Historic Landmarks: the Childress Post Office Building and the Palace Theater, along with the former Childress High School and the J.J. Rhoads School gymnasium, a significant landmark within an historically African-American neighborhood.
