The Chilean National Museum of Fine Arts, in Santiago, is one of the major centers for Chilean and broader South American art and the oldest such museum in South America, established in 1880. Its current home, the Palace of the Fine Arts, was completed in 1910 to mark the first centennial of Chilean independence. Designed by the Chilean architect Emile Jéquier in a full-blown Beaux-Arts style, it stands in Santiago's Parque Forestal and is a designated Historical Monument of Chile.
