Located in the Miramar neighborhood of Havana, the Church of Jesus (Iglesia de Jesús de Miramar) is the second largest church in Cuba. Designed by architects Eugenio Cosculluela and Guido Sutter, the structure was begun in 1948 and inaugurated on May 28, 1953. The building exemplifies Romanesque-Byzantine Revival architecture, blending the rounded arches and solid massing of Romanesque tradition with the ornamental and spatial qualities characteristic of Byzantine style. It stands within the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Cristobal de la Habana at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 82nd Street.
