The Church of San Bartolomé is the oldest church in Logroño, Spain, with construction beginning in the 12th century and continuing into the 13th. Its architectural fabric reflects this long building campaign: Romanesque elements survive in the chancel and the lower tower, while the magnificent arched portal exemplifies the Gothic style that developed as work progressed. The portal's sculptural program, executed in Romanesque style, depicts scenes from the life of Saint Bartholomew and biblical passages. Protected as a heritage monument since 1866, the church occupies a prominent position as Landmark No. 9 on the Way of St. James pilgrimage route, some 612 kilometers from Santiago de Compostela, and forms part of that UNESCO World Heritage Site.
